Chris Biggs named Secretary of State

“Protecting the integrity of our state’s securities has been my mission for the past eight years. I bring that same experience and resolve to protecting the integrity of our state’s business filings and electoral system. I am honored, and truly humbled, to be selected for this new post,”  Secretary Biggs said.

Prior to being named Kansas’ security commissioner in 2003, Biggs had served as an attorney in public service, including 14 years as Geary County Attorney. Biggs is a graduate of Kansas State University and KU Law School.

Biggs currently lives in rural Geary County.




Toyota dismisses account of runaway Prius

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Toyota Motor Corp. dismissed the story of a man who claimed his Prius sped out of control on the California freeway, saying Monday that its own tests found the car's gas pedal and backup safety system were working just fine.

Multiple tips lead to drug bust

Multiple tips from the public and officer surveillance led to the Sunday arrest of three people on drug charges on the second and third floors of an apartment house at 116 W. Jewell.

The I-135/I-70 Drug Task Force found meth lab chemicals, drug paraphernalia and 5.7 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of $570 in apartments C and D, according to Lt. Jim Norton, the task force commander. Nathan T. McLaughlin, 28, who rents the apartments on the second floor, was arrested.
