Court employees facing furloughs

3/18/2010

Employees in Saline County District Court and other courts across the state will be furloughed for four Fridays starting in April as part of an effort to deal with continued state budget shortfalls.
District court offices, including the clerk’s office and court services, will be closed on April 9, 16 and 23 and May 7, and about 35 employees locally will be on unpaid leave on those days as the result of an administrative order issued last week by the Kansas Supreme Court.
State employees who will not be working include clerks, baliffs, court reporters and court services personnel, such as probation officers. Saline County employees who work in district court will not be affected, including the staff of the county attorney’s office and court security officers.
Of state employees, only judges are not affected by the order, and at least one judge will be on duty those days to ensure that critical court functions can proceed, said Chief Judge Daniel Hebert.
