Man suffers gunshot wound to foot

7/1/2009

A Salina man who was treated for a gunshot wound to the foot on Tuesday is the same man who in May suffered an injury to his face when, police believe, he was struck in the face by a baseball bat he was using to strike a van.
In both incidents, police believe alcohol was involved.
Alexis Abrego, 18, 613 Rocket, was shot in the foot by a .22-caliber gun shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield.
Mansfield would not say whether the injury was self-inflicted.
The incident occurred at Abrego’s home, and it is being investigated as an unlawful discharge of a firearm, Mansfield said.
In May, police believe that Abrego was injured when he was leaning out of a car window striking a parked van with a baseball bat and the bat rebounded, hitting him in the face.
In the first case, police got a call from someone who said that Abrego had been leaning out of the car window and that his head was struck by a passing vehicle in the 800 block of Choctaw Street.
Officers found Abrego with a large bump on his forehead, a split lip and a vertical split up the middle of his face.
Officers found a baseball bat in the back seat of the car in which Abrego had been riding.
