Man suffers gunshot wound to foot
7/1/2009
A Salina man who was treated for a gunshot wound to the foot on Tuesday is the same man who in May suffered an injury to his face when, police believe, he was struck in the face by a baseball bat he was using to strike a van.
In both incidents, police believe alcohol was involved.
Alexis Abrego, 18, 613 Rocket, was shot in the foot by a .22-caliber gun shortly before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Salina Deputy Police Chief Carson Mansfield.
Mansfield would not say whether the injury was self-inflicted.
The incident occurred at Abrego’s home, and it is being investigated as an unlawful discharge of a firearm, Mansfield said.
In May, police believe that Abrego was injured when he was leaning out of a car window striking a parked van with a baseball bat and the bat rebounded, hitting him in the face.
In the first case, police got a call from someone who said that Abrego had been leaning out of the car window and that his head was struck by a passing vehicle in the 800 block of Choctaw Street.
Officers found Abrego with a large bump on his forehead, a split lip and a vertical split up the middle of his face.
Officers found a baseball bat in the back seat of the car in which Abrego had been riding.

Can not believe some people says....
So just cause someone shot himself in the foot he should not be charged with unlawful discharge of a fire arm. How stupid are you? Maybe you should let him shoot your kid then shoot himself again then are you going to say it is ok because he shot himself. The stupidity of some comments amaze me. So a drunk driver who crashes and hurts no one but himself and his car should not be held responsible for DUI and Reckless driving because it was only him hurt. Wake up and smell the coffee eventually it is going to be someone else that is hurt by him, and if things can be done about it now why give him an opportunity to screw up more? Or maybe this is your kid and being a bad parent you think just because he hurt himself it is enough punishment. Certain people need to learn there are laws for a reason.
