Results from a survey of Saline County residents show that nearly 75 percent of respondents prefer that the Saline County Livestock and Expo Center remain at its current location in Kenwood Park.

The survey results by a group of researchers from Kansas Wesleyan University were presented at Tuesday’s Saline County Commission meeting.

The researchers, working with county commissioners, developed a written survey that was mailed out at the end of September to a random sample of 1,000 Saline County registered voters. There were 365 respondents to the survey.

Residents of the city made up 83 percent of respondents, more than half of those responding were at least 55 years old, and 88 percent had lived in the county for more than 10 years. There were 61.4 percent of respondents who supported improvements at the facility, The overwhelming majority of respondents, 71.7 percent, preferred a public/private partnership to finance those improvements. Just 3.9 percent of respondents supported an increase in property taxes to fund the work.
