Don't miss opportunity for fun and fitness

9/7/2011

For those of you who have anxiously been waiting, it's finally time to sign up for another session of Strong People. If you're looking for a fun, enjoyable way to increase physical activity, this class is for you. It is a light weight training course that helps improve balance and flexibility, builds lean muscle and burns calories. Any fitness level is welcome. Beginners through more seasoned exercisers will find benefits from participating in this class. This class is a research-based program from Tuft's University. No previous weight training is required. These exercises focus on simple, yet extremely effective moves targeting multiple areas of the body.

When and where

Classes will again be held at the Salina Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30-11:15 a.m. beginning Oct. 4 through Dec. 20. This is a 12-week exercise class. You will need to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Feel free to bring your own ankle and hand weights or use the weights provided by the Senior Center. If you bring your own, you'll need hand weights in the 1-3 pound range, depending on your physical ability. Ankle weights should be 10-20 pounds. This may sound like a lot for your legs, but most ankle weights will allow you to decrease the amount until you find a weight that is appropriate for you.

Registration materials can be found at the Central Kansas Extension District Office located in the basement of the City-County Building or at the Salina Senior Center. If you are a previous Strong Person participant, you do not need to fill out new registration materials. All materials are due back to the Extension Office by Sept. 27.

This will be a fun, energetic and invigorating class. It was a great success last session. Participants saw marked improvements in many areas, plus it's a great way to meet new people.

To sign up for the class or for more information, please call the Central Kansas Extension District in Salina, (785) 309-5850.
