CLAY CENTER -- Fred J. Urban, 91, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012. He was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Cloud County. Survivors: wife, Dorothy; daughters, Sharon Wachsnicht and Susan Vint; sons, Gary and Michael; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister; and two brothers.


HADDAM -- Albert H. Thomas, 93, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012. He was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Edgemont, Pa., to Frank Thomas and Berdella (Pinkerton) Thomas. He was retired from the street, water and cemetery departments for the city of Haddam. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.


SMITH CENTER -- Paul T. Seemann, 79, of Smith Center, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012. Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary, Smith Center, is handling arrangements.


ELLIS -- Opal P. Seefeld, 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012. She was born Feb. 13, 1926, in Downs to Okke and Cora Hull. Preceded in death: a daughter, Juanitta Gibson; son, Kevin Tatman; grandson, Siegfried Lang Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Lance Goseland and Elizabeth and McKayla Welch.


ABILENE -- Nicholas A. Scheele, 33, of Abilene, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012. Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, is handling arrangements.


NICODEMUS -- Clarence W. Sayers, 81, of Nicodemus, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012. Stinemetz Funeral Home, Hill City, is handling arrangements.


TESCOTT -- Robert E. Saindon, 68, of Tescott, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012. Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.


BELOIT -- Wymond E. Rehmert Jr., 85, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit. He is survived by several cousins. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit. Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church, Beloit.


HAYS -- Alene K. Meskimen, 58, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012. She was born Sept. 15, 1953, in Garden City to Allan D. and Mollie E. (Sewell) Meskimen. She was preceded in death by her parents.


LAWRENCE -- Charlotte Joyce Joler, 91, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Windsor of Lawrence, Lawrence. She was born Aug. 21, 1920, on the family farm in Republic County, the daughter of Joy E. and Charlotte (Lewis) Carbutt. She graduated from Belleville High School in 1937. Mrs. Joler was a salesperson working with her husband at Joler Real Estate in Concordia for many years. They moved from Concordia to Lawrence in 1985 and continued in the real estate business until retiring in the early 1990s. She was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Lawrence and in Concordia. She was an artist.


RUSSELL -- Jay C. Hutchison, 80, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012. Jay was born Feb. 27, 1931, in Howard to Ray and Grace Hutchison. Jay was preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Thouvenelle, and stepdaughter, Merceda Ares.


McPHERSON -- Ronald R. Chaika, 72, died Jan. 26, 2012. He was born April 1, 1939, to Walter J. and Catherine F. (Fordell) Chaika. He was retired from NCRA. His wife, Joyce, died in 1996. He is survived by his son, Jason Chaika and life partner Terry W. Bowers, of Topeka; cousin, Karen Banick, of Stratford, Conn.; and aunt, Evelyn Poynter, of Stratford. There will be no visitation. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Stockham Family Funeral Home, McPherson.


ABILENE -- Joseph E. Atherton, 95, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012. He was born Jan. 30, 1917, in Dennis to Charles Webster and Molly E. (Edwards) Atherton. His wife, Sadie, died April 20, 2009. He is survived by his daughter, JoEllen Berk, of Lenexa; two sons, Joseph E. "Eddie" Atherton Jr., of Wichita, and Chuck Atherton, of Topeka; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.


Margie E. Viar, 95, of Salina, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012. She was born May 8, 1916, to Arch and Ollie Mae (Arnett) Garrison. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bud; sisters,


LANSING, Mich. — Sean P. Utter, 33, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in Lansing. Sean Patrick Utter was born Aug. 12, 1978, in Salina, Kan. He was preceeded in death by his grandparents, John and Genevieve Schneider and Brampton Hogan. He is survived by one daughter, Zoe Nicollette Utter, of Bennington, Kan.; his mother and stepfather, Ann Schneider Longbine and husband Douglas Longbine, of Bennington; his father, Timothy J. Utter, of Lawrence, Kan.; three brothers, Jeffrey A. Utter, of Kansas City, Kan., Brandon G. Utter, of San Antonio, and Joseph J. Arnold, of Bennington; one sister, Carrie VanSchuyver, of Plainville, Kan.;


Maxine Adele (Montgomery) Ryan, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012. She was born June 10, 1924, to Clyde Montgomery and Victoria Wilbeck in Vesper. She was a farmer and stockwoman. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Gloria Ridel and Rayonelle Helin.


COLBY — Zelma Mae Reed, 95, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012. She was born Sept 11, 1916, to Melville and Lula (Burg) Bever. She was preceded by her parents; husband, Burtis Reed; a son, Ronald Reed; and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons, Robert (Kay) Reed and Keith (Karen) Reed; a daughter, Kathleen (Robert) Bryan; daughter in-law, Virginia Reed; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.


AGRA — Harlan D. Morgan, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012. He was born Feb. 6, 1925, to Lyle and Bernice (Miller) Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of the home; his son, Duane, of WaKeeney; two daughters, Roberta Jarvis, of Phillipsburg, and Charlene King, of Collyer; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.


LAWRENCE — Charolotte Joyce Joler, 91, of Lawrence, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012.


HOXIE — Alfred A. Geist, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012. He was born Dec. 25, 1927, to Joseph and Helen (Vonfeldt) Geist. He is survived by his wife, Doris; sons, Joe and Dave; daughters, Bonita Palmer, Donna German, Barb Cooper and Jan Juenemann; sisters, Leona Peters and Rosa Turner;


JAMESTOWN — Robert L. Eakins, 69, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012. He was born June 29, 1942, to Arthur and Eva (Caraveau) Eakins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Art. He is survived by his wife, Kay; son, Sam (Brenda); four grandchildren, Amber, Cordell, Lainee and Noah;

LANSING, Mich. — Sean P. Utter, 33, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Lansing. Sean Patrick Utter was born Aug. 12, 1978, at Salina, Kan. FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Betty L. Wise, 66, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. She was born Sept. 13, 1945, to Virgil and Alice (Reichard) Thacker. In September 1974, she married Kayl L. Wise in Salina. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Sally Nistor; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Woodin, and Robert and Lisa Woodin; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Deanna Bachman, Dianna Smith and Alta Thacker; and two brothers, Galen Thacker and Dwight Thacker.




OVERLAND PARK — Peggy Beryl A. Razor Thies, 91, of Overland Park, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012. She was born May 21, 1920, in Marion. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, affectionate grandmother and great-grandmother, a loyal and loving companion and true to many friends, passed away peacefully into the loving hands of God and his angels. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Edna McNeil Razor; her loving husband, Dr. W.M. Thies, on Oct. 8, 1988; and also a trusted and devoted companion of 12 years, Paul Eberhard, on May 11, 2003. Left behind are her three daughters; Patti and Paul Pensabene, of Holbrook, N.Y., Cindy and Terry Slagle, of San Antonio, Sandy and Mackey Mitchell, of Edmond, Okla.; and a son, Charlie and Stephanie Thies, of Olathe; her sisters, the late Wanita and Bernard Selvy, of Aurora, Colo., and Charlene and the late Tom Farmer, of Salt L


HARPER — Carl Lee Weathers, 75, formerly of Russell, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012. He was born April 8, 1936, to Carl Glen and Marjorie (Dutton) Weathers. Preceded by: parents; and sisters, Betty Smith and Jackie Adams. Survived by: children, Charla J’ne Thomas, Kelligh Loyd, Lonnie and Mark Weathers;


Vella Ruth Sipel, 62, of Salina, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012. She was born July. 1, 1949, in Salina to Sheldon and Ruth (Wakefield) Turner. Vella was preceded in death by her brother, Ernest Turner. She was a member of Salina Heights Christian Church. She love quilting and roller-skating. Vella is survived by her son, Darren Sippel, of Assaria; daughter, Trena Hoppock and husband Marty, of Salina; brother, Clarence Turner and wife Vivian, of Catati, Calif.; two sisters, Edythe Tisdale and husband Walt, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Lola Nelson and husband Barry of Salina; and five grandchildren.


INMAN — Dorothy E. Schwartz, 95, of Inman, died Feb. 6, 2012. She was born Oct. 12, 1916, to Walter and Flossie McKay. She was preceded by her husband, Ralph; and two brothers, Clarence and Kenneth McKay. She is survived by her children, Dwayne Schwartz, Dennis Schwartz, Donna St. Aubyn and Don Schwartz;
