SAN ANTONIO -- Margaret Louise Tillberg, 90, formerly of Salina, Kan., died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at TRISUN Care Center-Windcrest, San Antonio, Texas.
Margaret Louise Watts Tillberg was born into the home of Harold Ernest and Lovina Mary (Quinn) Watts on August 9, 1919, on a farm northwest of Bennington, Kan. After her marriage, she lived on a farm near Hedville, Kan. Later, she moved to San Antonio to live with her daughter.
Margaret Louise was baptized on May 17, 1929, and confirmed on May 27, 1934, at Marquette, Kan. Margaret Louise Watts and Carl Elmer Tillberg were united in Holy Matrimony at the home of Louise's parents in Marquette on May 29, 1943. Two children blessed their union, Roger and Janet. Her husband, Carl Elmer, died in March 1991.
Mrs. Tillberg was an elementary school teacher for 33 years. She graduated from Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kan., in May 1940, and from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan., in May 1963. She retired from teaching fourth grade at Tescott Grade School in May 1990. She was a leader of the Hedville 4-H Club and was active in the Hedville Ladies Club. She was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served as Sunday school superintendent, Hedville Vacation Bible School leader, and was an active member of the Tabitha-Ruth Ladies Circle.
Louise was surrounded by many who knew and loved her during her life. One brother, Lewis, preceded her in death in July 1927.
Survivors include a son, Roger Tillberg, of Salina; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Bill Keller, of San Antonio, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law , Herbert and Helen Watts, of Lindsborg, Kan.; two grandsons and their wives, William and Fallon Keller, of Baltimore, Md., and Benjamin and Beth Keller, of Dover, Del.; and numerous other relatives including many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 255 S. Seventh Street, Salina, with the Rev. Kent Happel officiating. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church and may be left at or sent in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth Street, Salina 67401.
