LEAWOOD - Ethel Mary (Schwartz) Fallon, 89, died Feb. 3, 2012, in Leawood. She was born in Salina on Oct. 18, 1922, the daughter of Charles L. and Ethel Mary O’Donnell Schwartz. She attended Sacred Heart School in Salina, Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn., and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in occupational therapy. With the onset of World War II, she joined the WAVES as a lieutenant JG in the United States Navy, utilizing her education and training to care for the physically and mentally wounded sailors at a variety of posts.
She married John Joseph Fallon, of New Rochelle, N.Y., on Dec. 27, 1948, at Sacred Heart Church in Salina. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 1996. Mr. Fallon was a prominent attorney in Kansas City, where they raised five children. She married Leo L. Bram in 2000 at Conception Abbey, and he preceded her in death Sept. 29, 2008.
Mary was a lifelong participant in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and was named Theta of the Year by the Kansas City chapter. A 60-year resident of Kansas City, Kan., she enjoyed gardening and volunteering for years at Shawnee Mission Medical Center and at the Kansas City Toy and Miniature Museum.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth A. Carroll and Alice Schwartz Mattil. Survivors include her devoted brother, Albert J. Schwartz; and her five children, Michael (Billie) Fallon, of Albuquerque, N.M., Kevin (Becky) Fallon, of Bellevue, Wash., Dr. Moira Fallon, of Rochester, N.Y., Dr. Pat (Dan Coleman) Fallon, of Seattle, and Dr. John (Sharon) Fallon, of Fort Wayne, Ind. She dearly loved her seven grandchildren, Sean Fallon, Katy (Greivin) Morales, Kelly Fallon, Luke Fallon, Alea Fallon, Brenna Fallon and Sawyer Coleman. She rejoiced at meeting her great-grandson, Taven Morales, who recently took his first steps in front of her. She will be missed by her dear friends, Jane Spence, Geri Gaughan and Pat Brummel. She has been loved and comforted by her extended family; nieces and nephews have been by her side throughout her recent difficulties. We will miss you Mom, Nana, Aunt Ettie and Mary. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Cure’ of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, Kappa Alpha Theta and The Kansas City Toy and Miniature Museum.
