CULVER - Robert E. Saindon, 68, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9. 2012. He was born April 19, 1943, on the family farm in Rooks County, the son of Lawrence and Katherine (Desmarteau) Saindon.
Robert was a graduate of Palco High School and served as a radio operator in the United States Army, from 1966 to 1968. He worked over 34 years with the Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed tinkering and inventing and loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed metal detecting and collecting coins. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Judy, of the home; three children, Roberta Otto, of Castle Rock, Colo., Kevin Saindon and wife Carrie, of Gunter, Texas, and Megan Herrmann and husband Mark, of Fayetteville, Ark; five brothers and sisters, Virginia Hull and husband Dale, of El Dorado, LeRoy Saindon, of Great Bend, Melvin Saindon and wife Sharon, of Zurich, Bonita Shubert and husband Ron, of Munjor, and Susan Maddox and husband Doug, of Conway, Ark.; and eight grandchildren, Kylie, Brittany and Alexis Otto, Gracie, Will and Lucy Herrmann and Noah and Emily Saindon.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, where the family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Culver United Methodist Church, 401 Main, Culver. Memorials may be made to the family for grandchildren’s educational fund or Tammy Walker Cancer Center.
