Knight Moves! Sacred Heart boys pile up points for Class 3A track victory
WICHITA -- Now that it's over, Sacred Heart's boys can come clean.
"Our coaches said we shouldn't be counting points, but of course we have," Drew Diederich said with a smile after the Knights rolled to a first-place Class 3A team finish Saturday at the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships at Cessna Stadium. "Before the 800, we figured things would have to go pretty bad not to win it."
By the time they put the final exclamation point on it with a third-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay, the Knights had amassed 73 points to 48 for runner-up Phillipsburg.

WICHITA -- Drew Diederich was not yet born the last time it happened.
Neither were any of his Sacred Heart teammates.
And yet as the Knights set their sights on the school's first boys team title in 26 years this weekend at the Kansas State High School Track and Field Championships, the focus is much narrower.
Salina Central repeat state boys golf qualifier
LAWRENCE -- A return trip to state was never a given. Not after Salina Central lost its top two players from last year's state qualifying team and had only one senior among its top six this season.
Now that the Mustangs have played their way back to the Class 5A boys state golf tournament, head coach Patrick Newell isn't exactly sure what to expect.

Pitching propels Knights to state
Daniel O'Brien and Blake Jones are not identical twins separated at birth.
It would have been difficult, however, to tell the two Sacred Heart juniors apart during their separate stints on the mound at the Class 3A regional baseball tournament at Dean Evans Stadium.
O'Brien spun a two-hit shutout in leading the Knights to a 3-0 victory over Southeast of Saline in the regional semifinals Wednesday afternoon. Jones followed with a two-hit shutout of his own and like O'Brien, was supported by just enough offense in a 3-0 victory over top-seeded Marion in the tournament title contest.
